A gravel cycling event

  • Strawberry Creek Raceway (map)

A Celebration of Cycling!

Join me for an invitational gravel ride on Sunday, July 30. This is a first year event and we will be testing out some interesting routes and activities!

Date: Sunday, July 30

Time: Long ride leaves at 9AM, short rides leave at 11AM

Start/Finish - Strawberry Creek Raceway (Township Rd 504, Thorsby, AB T0C 2P0) - approx. 1 hour drive Southwest of Edmonton https://goo.gl/maps/gKqRzfcAXfYZM7S89

Routes: GPX files will be provided (approx 50km, 100km, 150km and 215km loop options w/75% gravel - gravel surfaces will be "varied’!). All rides will be UNSUPPORTED. This is NOT A RACE - at least not this year :-) Each ride will be a ‘lap’ so it will be imperative that you are self-sufficient.

Activities: self-supported gravel riding, stops for river swimming, campfire, post-ride BBQ, fast laps on paved race track with various bike categories, MTB trails, use your imagination!

Technical Support: Revolution Cycle. We will endeavour to have at least 1 roving support vehicle.

Event partners: Castelli, Skratch Nutrition, BMC bikes, Shimano, Lazer, Pro.

Entry: you must be an ABA member to join the group ride. 50 riders maximum for our inaugural event. Register below to confirm your spot.

Cost: $25 per person (Under 18 are free) (zone 4 registration site)

https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=32401

Emergency Action Plan & First Aid: Emergency services may be on site at Start/Finish as well as with roving tech support on course at various points. The nearest hospital is the Devon General Hospital (101 Erie St S, Devon, AB T9G 1A6, Canada). Use 911 in an emergency.

There will be prizes., but it’s not a race! The first 50 people to sign up will receive a Skratch nutrition pack as well as a gift from Shimano. Lazer helmets will provide draw prizes! We’ll also have a BBQ to get you feeling better post ride!

Be prepared to support yourself with spares, tools, CO2, water, fuel, etc. There are very limited areas where you can stop and purchase food and water. Additionally, the gravel sectors will be ‘varied’. Depending of weather (dry = loose and dusty) (wet = compact and fast) and wind, the time to finish will change accordingly. We recommend a red tail light for the paved sectors.

It will be a fundraiser for cancer research.

Start/Finish at Strawberry Creek Raceway
