Riding my bike has been a way of life for
me since I was a child. That feeling of freedom when I rode
my first bike was something I’ll never forget. A whole
new world opened up for me as I flew around my neighbourhood
creating new adventures around every corner.
Little did I know that at the age of 12, my daily, early morning
paper route, carrying up to 50 pounds of newsprint every day
would help me become a professional cyclist. Since then, I’ve
participated in almost every type of cycling; touring, centuries,
track, road, cyclo-cross, multi-day charity events, I’ve
even raced BMX with my son.
As a professional cyclist, I’ve traveled the world and
have seen some of the world’s most beautiful scenery
from the best seat in the house, my bicycle saddle!
My cycling
career spanned 15 years from 1977 to 1992 during which I raced
track, road, mountain and cyclo-x bicycles. I raced for Canada's
national team from 1979 until 1992, the last 7 years as a
professional for the ground-breaking 7-Eleven team and competed
an average of 100 races a season.
A few of my most favorite results include bronze medals at
the '82 Commonwealth Games (Brisbane) and '83 Universiade
Games (Edmonton), representing Canada at the '84 Los Angeles
Olympics and in 1986, was the first North American to wear
the Yellow Jersey at the Tour de France.
Now,
I want to bring that world to you through my series of bike
skills camps and event vacations that will both help you improve
your cycling expertise as well as allow you to feel the wind
in your face like you’ve never felt it before.
I hope that you will be able to join me as we search out the
best roads to spread our wings and fly on a two-wheeled adventure.
